Loving the World with the Gospel
We believe the church does not exist as an end in and of itself but exists for the sake of the world. This is what it means to be a missional church. Jesus said in John 17 “as the Father has sent Me, so I send you into the world.” The Christian community is only ‘Christian’ in so far as we lay aside our self-absorbed plans for achievement and begin to live for others. Our prayer is that in the decades to come Grace North Atlanta will faithfully risk being a church ‘for the world’ in our north Atlanta culture, enabling Christians to hear and respond to the call of the kingdom. The church is called to be in but not of yet for the world. This is undoubtedly a difficult tension to maintain but we believe the primary issue is a question of love. Resentment of the world is easy; love is hard. A faithful missional church will at times have to be against the world, but even when we are against the world, we are against the world for the sake of loving the world with the gospel.
