Pastor & Family
John and Adrienne have been married eighteen years and are the proud parents of three children, J.T. (15), Katelyn (13) and William (11). John grew up in LaGrange, GA and Adrienne went to high school in Griffin, GA, so planting a church in the north Atlanta area was something of a homecoming for them after living for many years in New England.
John and Adrienne served for fifteen years with Athletes in Action, a division of Campus Crusade for Christ. After one year overseas in Prague, Czechoslovakia and four years directing a campus ministry at Auburn University (92-96), the Hardies lived in Orlando where Katelyn and William were born during seminary. John did an M.Div and M.A. at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando and then moved to New Haven, CT to direct a campus ministry at Yale University (99-06) where John also earned a Master in Sacred Theology at Yale Divinity School.
While ministering at Yale, the Hardies had a formative experience at Christ Presbyterian Church in New Haven, CT where John was trained for pastoral ministry and was ordained in the PCA. The Hardies left Yale when John accepted a call to serve as the Senior Minister of Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis, TN in 2006-2007, after which the Hardies spent a year at Princeton Seminary where John is a Ph.D. candidate in Systematic Theology writing a dissertation on evil and the Book of Job in the theology of Karl Barth and John Calvin. The primary lesson of the Book of Job – that control is an illusion – has not been simply an academic exercise but a living experience for the Hardies the past few years.
John and Adrienne still have a lot to learn but God has given them an inkling of the freedom that comes through a deeper experience of grace. John's heart is to lead Grace North Atlanta to be a worshiping community motivated not by guilt and fear but by a theology of grace that teaches us to take our eyes off ourselves and focus our attention where it should be – upon Christ our crucified and living Savior.
