The Hardies Sending Team
God has been clear in leading us to plant a new PCA church in north Atlanta. So we trust that where the Lord guides He also provides. Below is a description of our vision along with an invitation to be a part of it with us.
Why plant a church in metro Atlanta?
Over a million people have moved to the metro Atlanta area in the past seven years making it the fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States. The Roswell-Alpharetta-Milton area of north Atlanta in which we will be planting is no different. New people are re-locating due to booming business and commercial developments including a one billion dollar development underway at the same exit on Highway 400 as the worship location for our church plant. To accommodate the population growth, two new large high schools have already been built and a third is in process, all of which are on in the area we are serving with the church plant.
Church planting is primarily for the sake of reaching un-churched or de-churched folks who have given up on the church. Studies indicate that new church communities reach more people who have previously given up on the church because the circles and cliques that naturally emerge in established churches have not yet formed or ‘cemented’ making it easier for new people to enter into and become valued members of the church community. Lives are changed in church plants in remarkable ways. Adrienne and I know firsthand from our seven years at Yale when we were part of a PCA church plant. Of course there are several wonderful large churches in north Atlanta – but there are also a lot of folks who are burned out with ‘religion’ and have given up on the church. We believe the gospel of grace will be like a fresh drink of water to a weary soul.
A second compelling factor is the significant wealth and resources in our community which need to be mobilized for the Kingdom. One of our ministry commitments is to give away more than we spend on ourselves – we believe and are already praying this church will give away millions of dollars for the Kingdom in the years to come.
Part of our Sending Team – Walking with Us on the Journey
The first challenge we face is gathering a group of families who know us and believe in us enough to be a part of sending us to plant Grace North Atlanta. In brief, we’re asking families to walk with us on the journey the Lord has for us.
Our need is for families who know our heart and vision for the gospel to join hands with us whether we met during this past year in Princeton or when I first went to Czechoslovakia in 1991. There are three specific ways in which you can be a part of our Sending Team.
- Give Sacrificially
First, financially, it typically takes at a minimum $100,000 a year for three years to plant a new church. For 15 years we trusted the Lord to provide for our family and ministry expenses and now the Lord has called us to trust Him again in the same manner at least for the first two to three years of the church plant. To move our family and cover our salary and expenses with the church plant we need to see God move the hearts of His people to give. If you would like to partner with us through giving, please send all financial gifts to:
Grace North Atlanta
The Metro Atlanta PCA committee to which I am accountable will not allow me to start full-time ministering with the church plant until all of our funding is raised. Thank you for giving!

Alpharetta, GA 30004 - Pray Specifically
Secondly, we need you to pray for us as part of our Sending Team. Church planting places a great deal of stress upon marriages and can be a lonely time. Adrienne and I are crazy enough to risk it but not without a team of folks committed to pray for us by name as well as our children. We will give you specific things for which to pray for by communicating regularly what the Lord is doing through the work. Thank you for praying! - Gossip Strategically
Have you ever met a pastor who encouraged you to gossip? (smile) This next year will be a time of meeting and reaching out to a lot of new people. If you know of any friends living in Alpharetta, Roswell, Sandy Springs, or Dunwoody areas who might be looking for a church or perhaps have given up on the church altogether, would you please let me know? I’d love to grab lunch with them, get to know them, and share the vision of Grace North Atlanta. You can find out all you ever wanted to know (and then some!) at www.gracenorthatlanta.org Please point your friends to the website and feel free to give them my cell (770) 331-1010 and email john.hardie@gracenorthatlanta.org Thank you for gossiping!
Walking Together on the Journey
Right now we are long on vision, short on resources. But I envision a day when Grace North Atlanta will reach and nurture many families in the gospel of grace and give away millions of dollars for the Kingdom as a resource church. I believe God will do that.
I appreciate your family taking the time to consider whether God might want you to be a part of making that vision a reality with us. Adrienne joins me in saying thank you for your friendship to us as we walk the road the Lord has for us.
Now that we are ‘returning to our roots’ so to speak, and closer to many of the families who have been a part of our lives for so many years, we hope to see a lot of old friends in the coming months. I look forward to seeing you either in your neck of the woods or perhaps even when you’re in Atlanta worshiping with us!
With love & appreciation,
